One of the stories my parents tell of me as a baby is observing me sitting on the carpet, completely zero-ed in on a little bug crawling about there, following it with my finger. To this day, I find that I still get lost in the small details. Nature is my favourite subject, so exceptional she is at creating the most elegant line, the most intricate pattern, the most stunning combination of colours. For me, finding new subjects is an exercise of being in the moment. Suddenly I notice the little Chinese bowl that I feed my son from each day is a thing of beauty, and needs to be painted. The nutmeg that I grate over my morning coffee is an object of depth and subtle colour, worthy of study. Creating the painting itself is a continuation of being in the moment. Slowing down and savouring the subject. Below are some of my recent drawings and paintings.
